AwardAwardCatherineBeery Media is honored to be the video production company that produced the award winning “Mayors Innovation Project” video with the Town of Chapel Hill.

Press Release: The Town of Chapel Hill wins 3CMA Awards • Recognized for Innovative Communications

The Town of Chapel Hill was recognized for communications excellence and received two national awards this month from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) during its annual conference in Minneapolis, Minn.

The SAVVY Awards competition recognizes outstanding local government achievements in communications, public-sector marketing and citizen-government relationships.

Judges recognized the entry “Mayors Innovation Project Video” for a Silver Circle Award in the TV and Video – Promotional Video category. The Town partnered with the Chapel Hill and Orange County Visitors Bureau, which funded the project and provided creative input; Beery Media of Carrboro on video production; and the Community Beat Making Lab at the Street Scene Teen Center, 179 E. Franklin St, on the music track. In the four-minute video, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle provide an overview of the community and welcome message to visitors.

About the video, judges stated: ” Outstanding camera work and impressive variety of locations for such a short time with the mayor. The use of local music talent was a great touch, as was structuring the video to be used as a general visitor’s video as well. Very well done! Inviting, informative, and effective. Your mayor has “star” quality and appeal and this video showcased that with great results. Exciting and engaging. High production value - loved the mayor’s involvement in the project; great on-camera asset. Transitions were excellent. Great multi-use potential for promoting the Chapel Hill area.”

A Man of Steel Screens in Los Angeles

0

We are ecstatic to announce that our short film, “Mike Roig – A Man of Steel” recently played at the Vimby Film Festival at ArcLight Hollywood Cinemas in Los Angeles. If you know anything about Mike Roig, you know that he is a master Metal Sculptor, and lives right in my home town of Carrboro, NC. Mike was generous enough to let us follow him as he took scrap metal and made a 25 foot masterpiece that now is the talk of the town.

Take two and a half minutes and see how Mike spins his magic with arc welders, sledgehammers and paint.

Produced by Mark Burnett’s VIMBY (Survivor, The Voice, The Apprentice).
Field Produced, Shot, and Edited by Nic Beery (Ben Pickle, 12, Noah’s Arc, Sayonara to Hello).
Sound mix by Grahame Davies (National Geographic, The Crowd Scene)

Young Adult Book Trailer pushes the story far and wide

0

Author Lyn Hawks asked Beery Media, LLC to produce a book trailer for her powerful new novel, “How Wendy Redbird Dancing Survived the Dark Ages of Naught“. We had a lot of fun filming in and around Carrboro, NC. From script to casting, from an original score to special effects, we had a blast filming and editing this book trailer that gives the viewer a small taste of what’s between the covers of Lyn’s great new book.

Enjoy the trailer and grab yourself a copy of the book. It’s a good read for all ages.

Richard Branson says yes to bricks made from bacteria!

Screen shot 2013-12-11 at 11.10.38 AM

Can growing bricks from bacteria and sand, like an oyster grows a pearl, really work? Better still, can it aid countries that have more sand than resources? Yes and yes. Thanks to bioMASON.

Richard Branson’s Green Challenge has awarded bioMASON $500,000 euros to continue their research and work!

Beery Media is honored to have been a small part of this initiative and is ecstatic for Ginger Dosier and her bioMASON team. What a feeling to know Richard Branson viewed our work, and the video aided in making RTP start-up bioMASON the $500,000 euro winner.

bioMASON Inc. was formed in 2012 by Founder and CEO, Ginger Krieg Dosier.

bioMASON is a unique biotechnology start-up manufacturing company with a natural process that will revolutionize the building and construction industry. bioMASON employs natural microorganisms and chemical processes to manufacture biological cement-based masonry building materials.

AMSTERDAM, 16 September 2013 – Ginger Dosier of the United States has won the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge 2013. The jury, chaired by Richard Branson, awarded her €500,000 today at the final in Amsterdam to realise her green business plan. The jury chose Dosier for her company BioMason’s CO2-free brick production process. BioMason uses bacteria to ‘grow’ bricks out of readily available materials such as sand. The bricks compare favourably with traditional fired clay ones, whose manufacturing releases copious greenhouse gas emissions.

Documentary, Festivals and a Book Trailer

The summer of 2013 will go down as the most diverse in the history of BeeryMedia.com. We had the distinct pleasure of producing many productions for amazing folks and their companies. Let’s get right to it!

Nic Beery was honored to once again teach documentary film making for Duke University and their Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Joined by film maker Michael Salerno, The School of Doc is a five week summer program that teaches High School students everything about how to produce a documentary. This is all at no cost to the students or their families. Wonderful program. This year the SoDoc produced a short doc on food trucks called Food on Four Wheels.

Beery Films was selected to screen six of their award winning short films before every outdoor feature film screening in Chapel Hill, NC this summer. Titled Locally Grown, this rooftop film series was a fun way to spend evenings with family and friends, and see locally produced fare to boot.

Our on-going documentary project on renown painter Jim Howle continues.  In August we drove to Chicago and spent a few days filming Jim as he visited his old buddy Ted Goodman. Ted is bed ridden and this visit is a pivotal moment in the film. Very powerful. More details on this film as it continues production.  It is going to be a powerful story.

Many more productions, from commercials to associations to musical filming, but that’s all to report for now.  We hope your summer was wonderful and fall brings cooler weather and much more creativity and art in your life.

Cheers!

It’s been a great couple of months at Beery Media.  First up, we have partnered with Our State Magazine and The Carrboro Film Festival to judge the magazine’s first short Documentary film competition.  The winning film will screen in November at the 8th annual Carrboro Film Festival.  If you are a filmmaker or know one, check out this link for rules and submission info. Submit to Our State Film Competition.

On a musical note, we were stoked to go to the Haw River Ballroom on May 24th to film a promo video, “Magic Hour”, from the forthcoming album by YepRoc Recording Artists The Old Ceremony.

Another musical note, this one decidedly more humorous, we went down to Wilmington, NC to produce a rap TV commercial promoting the virtues of Recycled Mulch.  You have to see it to believe it. Michael Rosander, the star of the spot did an awesome and hilarious job.

As always, thanks for your interest in film and video doin’s by Beery Media.  Let us know if you ever have any production needs, we are here to help tell your story.

Cheers,

Nic
