Nic Beery, Principal

A former Ringling Bros. circus clown, Nic now prefers to be behind the camera. His films have been in over 100 festivals from Cannes to New York City, and have won numerous awards, including a recent Emmy nomination and the 2009 Indie Arts award winner for the North Carolina publication, The Independent.  Nic is the owner of BeeryMedia.com, a boutique video production company in Carrboro, North Carolina, and founder of the Carrboro Film Festival.



Winner of the 2009 Indie Arts Award from The Independent Weekly for filmmaking. Co-Founded the Carrboro Film Festival, to promote film making in the region. Founder and Curator of Century Center Cinema, a monthly film series of . Producer, writer, director and editor of several short films, narratives and documentaries. The short film, Veronica Always has won three awards at festivals nationwide. Frame has screened in Cannes, Scot- land and elsewhere. Combined, my films have been official selections in over 30 festivals worldwide. NightLife and Veronica Always have been seen on UNC-TV as part of the 2009 season of NC Visions.

Executive Producer, Project Manager, Editor, Owner, Beery Media, LLC, Carrboro, NC 2005-Present Owner and Producer for national digital film boutique. Responsible for managing video productions from script to screen. Work with free-lance camera crews, voice-over talent, actors and graphic artists to produce corporate films that are effective, on-time and on or under budget. Requirements include managing field shoots, supervising staff in post production and lots of coordination among many people and their schedules.

Clients include The American Association of State Highway Officials, American Society of Civil Engineers, HEI Hotels and Hospitality, Orange County Artists Guild, PTA Thrift Shop, National Inclusion Project, NC Prostate Cancer Coalition.

Producer, Production Department Manager, Mobile Video Services, Washington, DC 1999-2005

Work in above capacities for National and International clients. Also corporate and association productions. Duties as Production Department Manager included maintaining equipment inventory, managing film and video tape archive. Clients include CNN, NBC, PBS, all major foreign news Bureaus. Worked well under pres- sure and daily newscast deadlines.

Editor, Cameraman, Deutsche Welle TV, Washington, DC 1996-1999

Editor/Cameraman for international German satellite TV Network. DW-TV is the most watched German net- work in the world.

Managing Producer, AVID Editor, Litton Industries, McLean, VA 1993-1996

Responsible for EPA Superfund video productions. These productions required coordination with staff from the US Congress, Army and Defense Contractors. Produced productions and edited on non-linear AVID systems.

Instructor, Media General Productions, Fairfax, VA 1992-1994

Taught introduction to producing to beginning producers. Taught all aspects of producing from what to expect on a field shoot to how to create a budget to making a shoot schedule. Several folks that passed through this course are now successfully in television positions nationally.

Director of Audio Visual Services, AVI, Inc., Reston, VA 1989-1993

In charge of hotel A/V operations. Managed a staff that worked in shifts to ensure client and hotel satisfaction. Quality, timeliness and pro-activity a must. Ran weekly staff meetings, voiced issues, implemented new proce- dures, etc. to harvest a healthy work environment which included productivity and personal employee satisfac- tion.

Public Service Director, On-Air Host, WFMD Radio, Frederick, MD 1985-1989

Reached out to the community to promote listener awareness of public and non-profit events. Also hosted a daily radio show that presented news, music and talk in an entertaining fashion. Responsible for dialing in satellite feeds, recording traffic reports hourly and many other technical aspects of radio broadcasting.

World Famous Clown, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus 1982-1984

Toured two years with Ringling Bros. Circus. Lived on a train and performed in basketball stadiums as varied as Madison Square Garden and Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC. Responsible for my own make-up, gags and laun- dry.
